Shana Tova!

Here it is, erev erev Rosh HaShana, another year gone by. It's not too late to take advantage of the last few days of the year. I hope all of us can find that one thing we're going to work on for the coming year and stick to it!

I love the yomim tovim, being with family and friends and enjoying all the minhagim of the days is really amazing. I always feel an eternal connection to Hashem around these times. All the holidays, laws, and customs we have today go right back to Har Sinai. The fact that very little changes in the way we observe laws and that we've been practicing them for thousands of years should really make us feel like we are connected to something that spans generations and has existed since the beginning of the world. We should all take pride in knowing that we are part of an everlasting tradition and that every tefillah, minhag, halacha, etc. is absolute emes (truth)! At this time of year, let's all reaffirm our faith and our connection to Hashem and the generations past. May our tefillos be strong enough to make this our last Rosh HaShana in galus! Wishing you all a Kasiva V'Chasima Tova!

Moshav Perns?

According to the Moshav Band website, they will be performing this Sunday in Perns bookstore. I don't think I will be able to make it but I am curious as to what exactly the show will be like. I guess I haven't been to Perns in a long time but last time I was there it seemed pretty small? If any of you make it out to Perns on Sunday, can you please report back.

Nisht List Entry

I would like to add the following to the nisht list:

ring ring ring

Me: Hello?

"Volunteer": Hi, I'm Mr./Mrs. X calling on behalf of the ______(fire, police, EMT, MADD etc.) we're doing our annual donation campaign and want to know if we can count on your support again this year? Can we count on you for $25.

Me: No, I'm sorry, we really cannot help at this time.

"Volunteer": Well I understand and we're not trying to bother you or place a financial burden on you, any small amount helps. How about just $20, the ____(kids, police, parents, patients etc.) really appreciate your help.

Me: No, I'm sorry, we really cannot help at this time.

"Volunteer": Well I understand and we're not trying to bother you or place a financial burden on you, any small amount helps. How about just $15, the ____(kids, police, parents, patients etc.) really appreciate your help.

Me: No, I'm sorry, we really cannot help at this time.

"Volunteer": Ok, well we're not trying to bother you, we'll call you back next year. Thank you.

Me (after hanging up): AHHH!! I gave one time in my life to only one of these organizations and all of them call me every month for their "annual" campaign. Can I call them every month for my "rent" campaign? Any amount can help, even $5.

Don't get me wrong, I think giving charity is very worthwhile and that all of these programs are very important for our safety etc. but if I say NO, I CAN'T. I REALLY MEAN NO, I CAN'T!!

I am too nice to be mean on the phone so I will vent to you fellow bloggers. Sorry if any of you have the job of "Volunteer."

Breakfast, Lunch, & Dinner

I really don't have any reason to have a blog as I have nothing to say. I guess if Seinfeld can have a show about nothing then I can have a blog about nothing. The only thing I can think of to say is that you should all go to Eli's Restaurant in DC. They have really good food, bli ayin hora, I would suggest the chicken tenders - as a main or a side - you have to get these! Go and enjoy but don't say I recommended you because last time we were there YM broke a glass and I don't think they appreciated it very much. They were really nice though, despite the mess :)

Workman's Comp.

Ok, ok, so I finally decided to make a blog. Yesterday I had one of those more frustrating days. Let me just say that the US Dept. of Labor (DOL) is the most annoying workman's comp. insurance company in the entire world. So all of you NIH people, do not get hurt at work and do not come to my office and expect me to send claims for you.

Ok, how random I made a blog just for the stupid DOL. HaHa
